Freezing Rain warning

Geraldton – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Geraldton/Manitowadge/Nakina region.

Nipigon Fire is reporting poor travel conditions on Highways 11 and 11/17.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
  • Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
  • Nakina – Aroland -Pagwa
  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport

Freezing rain is expected or occurring. Mainly rain expected near the Lake Superior shoreline.

A messy mix of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain is expected today and tonight over a large section of Northern Ontario as a strong low-pressure system approaches the area. Precipitation may initially start off as rain before temperatures fall below zero.

In addition to the freezing rain threat, some areas may receive 5 to 15 cm of snow and ice pellets.

Areas close to the Lake Superior shoreline and northeast of the lake should remain just above zero resulting in mainly rain.

Very poor winter travelling conditions are expected. Motorists should be prepared to adjust travel plans accordingly.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
