THUNDER BAY – WildFire Update – The warm weather has caused two new fires so far.

There were two new fires confirmed by the afternoon of Saturday July 7.

  • Dryden Fire Number 17 has been declared out at 0.1 hectares and was located between Blue Lake and Corner Lake.
  • Dryden Fire Number 18 is being held at 0.1 hectares and is located near Lodge Lake.

Red Lake Fire Number 60 has been declared out at 156 hectares.

Following days of reduced fire activity and successful suppression efforts, resources are being demobilized over the next few days from Red Lake Fire Number 38 near North Spirit Lake and Sioux Lookout Fire Number 37 near Sachigo Lake in the far north.

There are currently 32 active fires in the region, 31 of which are under observation, under control, or being held.

The Northwest Region continues to assist the Northeast Region with fire crews and personnel following several days with multiple new fires in that part of the province.

The forest fire hazard is high across most of the region with a few pockets of moderate hazard scattered throughout the region.
