THUNDER BAY – WILDFIRE UPDATE – There were no new fires confirmed by the afternoon of Wednesday, July 4.

There was one fire confirmed by the end of the day on July 3. Kenora Fire Number 66 is under control at 1.8 hectares.

Recent rainfall in the far north is helping FireRanger crews in their efforts on Red Lake Fire 38 (28,217 hectares) near North Spirit Lake and Sioux Lookout Fire 37 near Sachigo Lake. Sioux Lookout Fire Number 37 was declared being held at 200 hectares this afternoon.

There are currently 34 active fires in the region, 33 of which are under observation, under control, or being held.

The forest fire hazard is low to moderate across most of the region with an area of high to extreme hazard in the far north of Sioux Lookout and Nipigon Districts.
