OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation

THUNDER BAY – OPP REPORT – Reports from the Ontario Provincial Police on some of the incidents officers responded to over the past few days:

FORT FRANCES, ON – On June 24, 2018, at approximately 4:35 PM, members of the Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, responded to a call of a disturbance at the corner of Scott Street and Portage Avenue. Officers located two females, one of whom had received minor injuries as a result of the altercation. As a result of the police investigation, one of the females was arrested and charged with criminal offences.

Dianne KASPER, 51 years of age, of Couchiching First Nation Territory, is being charged with:

  1. Assault with a Weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code,
  2. Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances in answer to the charges on June 25, 2018.

THUNDER BAY – On June 21, 2018, at approximately 4:40 pm, an officer from the Highway Safety Division of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 11/17, in the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge when the officer observed a driver contravening an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.

The officer conducted a traffic stop, and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further tests.

A 23-year-old male, from Oliver Paipoonge, was arrested and charged with:

-Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

-Driving with Open Container of Liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act,

-Speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

He appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 27, 2018, to answer to the charge.

THUNDER BAY – On June 23, 2018, at approximately 9:57 pm, officers from Thunder Bay OPP were on patrol on Highway 11/17, in the Municipality of Shuniah, when the officers observed a driver contravening an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.

The officers conducted a traffic stop, and while speaking with the driver, the officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further tests.

A 33-year-old male, from Sudbury, ON, was arrested and charged with:

-Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

-Driving with Open Container of Liquor contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act,

-Speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

He appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on July 24, 201,8 to answer to the charge.

EAR FALLS  – Ear Falls OPP are investigating a stolen vehicle that was taken during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 24, 2018, from the Hotel 105 Bar and Grill in Ear Falls. The vehicle is a blue logging truck and trailer that was later located on Highway 105, between Ear Falls and Pakwash Provincial Park. The driver has not yet been identified.
