THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead women’s club hockey team (12-3) will be looking to defend their National title this week at the ACHA D2 National Championship in Columbus, Ohio as once again the first ranked team in the West Division.

The Wolves will open the championships taking on Montclair State University on Wednesday followed by the University of Buffalo on Thursday and Boston College on Friday. The winners of each pool with then play on Saturday to solidify their spot in the championship game on Sunday.
Last year the women’s team won the ACHA D2 National Championship (see photo below) as the first ever Canadian team and finished their impressive season with a 19 game winning streak.
“I think the team is feeling quite good as we head back to defend our national championship title. Like any team, we have had a few bumps during the season but we rebounded very quickly and are back on pace with last year. We played a very challenging schedule this season and this prepared us for what is to come in Columbus. That being said you cannot take any game or team for granted and have to be ready for any situation. Our players have risen to the occasion as at times this year we played with a short roster due to injury, schooling or other circumstances. If we perform to our strengths we should be there in the end,” said Head Coach Dan Calvert
The Championships start on March 14 at 11:45am with the Wolves taking on Montclaire.
All games will be live streamed
