THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead women’s basketball team will be hosting an OUA Playoff game vs. the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 pm at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
“Our program feels extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to host a playoff game in front of our amazing fans at the Thunderdome. We have the best fans in the country and we truly appreciate their support. Laurier is an extremely well-coached team with one of the best point guards in the country. They are also a team that can get hot quickly from three. We played Laurier to 2 very close games this past weekend but we know the intensity will be higher and the nerves will be there. We need to stick to our strengths, play smart be ready to compete for 40 minutes,” said Coach Jon Kreiner.
The Wolves faced Laurier just this past weekend in their last games of the regular season, winning Friday in OT 60-58 and Saturday 62-59. The Thunderwolves finished the season with a 16-8 record, placing third in the OUA West. The Golden Hawks ended 10-14 and finished 6th.
Lakehead will need to continue to work to lock down Nicole Morrison who scored 15 points on Friday night and 21 on Saturday. Morrison proved she is a major threat on the floor and a key factor in Laurier’s offense. On Lakehead’s side, Leashja Grant will also play a big roll in the success of the Thunderwolves. Grant had two massive games against Laurier with 27 points, 16 rebounds on Friday and 16 points, 20 rebounds on Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased at the front desk at the Fieldhouse or online (click here) for $12 for adults and $8 for student/senior.
