THUNDER BAY – DAYSTARTER Good Morning Northwestern Ontario. For Thunder Bay the temperature this morning is -16c with a thirty percent chance of snow flurries.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Fort Severn
  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake

Wind chill values near minus 45 will develop in these areas this morning. The cold temperatures combined with winds will continue to give very cold wind chills into Friday morning and possibly through the weekend.

This has been a busy week in Thunder Bay with lots of discussion and politics. The Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Winter Chiefs Assembly winds up today at the Victoria Inn.

Yesterday Ontario Premier Wynne and Minister David Zimmer along with Ministers Mauro and Gravelle were in attendance. The Premier spent time listening to the Chiefs who expressed issues with the Far North Act and other concerns.

The Premier also engaged with a group of students in an impromptu session at the Victoria Inn.

The Premier then announced funding for Marina Park before attending a Town Hall meeting at the Italian Cultural Centre which attracted a full house of people. Premier Wynne was questioned on a wide variety of topics including social assistance, minimum wage impact on businesses, and education along with mental health.

Fuel prices across the region range from $1.119 at Extra Foods in Dryden, $1.249 in Kenora,  In Thunder Bay, the lowest price in the city is $1.226 at the Mac’s on Dawson Road.
