Hamilton, ON – The Lakehead woman’s volleyball team (3-11) was swept by the McMaster Marauders (12-1) tonight 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-20) at the Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton.
McMaster pushed a quick 9-0 lead in the first set and continued on going into the technical up 16-5. Lakehead could not recover, losing 25-10.
The Thundwolves continued to struggle in the second as McMaster pushed another lead. Lakehead went on some runs nearing the end of the set but were unable to stop McMaster from hitting 25.
Lakehead found some rhythm in the third with their blocking and their rotations with Meghan Routier and Leah Mousseau that brought it within three points at 23-20. The Thunderwolves could not hold the Marauders off as they claimed the last two points, ending today’s match 3-0.
Coach Chris Green commented “The scores don’t show it but the difference tonight was simple. We struggled to attack in long rallies past McMasters blockers. We had some very solid long rallies and just could not finish. Cudos to Mousseau for fixing her passing woes from last night showing her resolve and another strong game from setter Rachel Sweezey. Jessica Korchak was a presence blocking tonight. Again, strong rebound from last night and a good way to into Guelph for a fast turnaround at noon.”
The Wolves play their last game of the weekend in Guelph tomorrow at noon.
