Dryden Police Deal with Youth Crime

DRYDEN – NEWS – Dryden Police report that on December 20th just after 5:30 pm police responded to a residential Break and Enter in progress on Whyte Ave. When police arrived the youth fled the scene with police chasing the suspect on foot. With the assistance of a citizen who saw the chase, the youth was arrested. During the arrest the youth continued to fight with police causing minor injuries to one of the officers. The youth also attempted to identify himself as someone else and was in possession of stolen property.

The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is currently in custody and is charged with two counts of Assaulting Police, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Justice, and two counts of Failure to Comply with orders of the court. The youth will remain in custody until a bail hearing is set on this matter.

Youth in Custody for Weapons Offences

In a separate incident on December 20, a 16-year-male is in custody after pulling a knife on a citizen on Government Road. The 68-year-old victim reported he was walking west on Government Street when a youth not known to him started to walk with him.

When the victim asked the youth to stop walking with him, the youth pulled a knife out. The victim struck the youth at which time the youth fled. The second call to police was made about a citizen chasing the same youth who was holding a knife down Queen Street. The youth was arrested after a short altercation with police on Whyte Ave.

The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possessing Weapons Dangerous to the Public and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.

No one was hurt in this incident. At the time of the arrest the youth was under the influence of alcohol. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing. REF# DR17006251
