Pikangikum – OPP Update on Death Investigation

PIKANGIKUM – On Saturday, August 19 2017, at approximately 9:31 p.m. police were called to the school area on Airport Road in Pikangikum First Nation. Upon police arrival a male was found unconscious and transported to the nursing station for treatment. At 10:09 p.m. Bronson Lee STRANG, 34 years old was pronounced dead.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death along with the assistance of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS).

Kurri TURTLE, 32 years old of Pikangikum First Nation was arrested on August 25, 2017 and has been charged with assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code.

This investigation is still ongoing.
