THUNDER BAY – UPDATE – The Thunder Bay Police are monitoring the situation in the downtown Port Arthur area.

Red River Road is open, but the streets and sidewalks between Court Street and Camelot are closed off to activity. Vehicles which were parked on the streets have been left as is. Vehicles in the area are, police advise being left parked until the incident is over.

Thunder Bay Police advise that they are awaiting the arrival of the OPP Bomb Squad which is in Kenora.

Police have set up a command post in the area.

The evacuation of businesses in the area of Court Street between Red River Road and Van Norman Street out to Camelot Street started after a suspicious package was located in the area just after 2:00 p.m.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to stay out of the area until further notice.
