KENORA – MINING – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), issued the following statement following Premier Kathleen Wynne’s announcement that Ontario will move ahead with road construction into the Ring of Fire region:

“I am extremely pleased with Premier Wynne’s commitment today that Ontario will be moving ahead to build the road which will connect two First Nations up north to each other and Pickle Lake. This is fantastic news, and the impact this will have in Northwestern Ontario cannot be understated.

“Supporting the road link will provide year-round access to connect Webequie and Nibinamik First Nation as well as other communities to the provincial highway near Pickle Lake. It will open up economic opportunities, including the Ring of Fire, for the First Nation communities and municipalities, and is just one step forward in opening up the north through all-weather roads.

“Simply put, this is one of the most significant development projects to happen in the Kenora riding and Northwestern Ontario in many years.

“I applaud Premier Wynne’s vision and commitment to bringing much needed opportunities to residents of the riding and Northwestern Ontario.”
