Operation Dry Water will see the RCMP helping ensure safety on Canada's lakes and rivers

KENORA – On August 2nd, 2017 at approximately 5 pm, Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – Thunder Bay Detachment were conducting a marine patrol in Lake of the Woods (a lake which occupies parts of Ontario and Manitoba and the state of Minnesota in the United States) and located two boaters and their capsized vessel on a remote island close to the US/Canada border.

The two US citizens had been fishing on July 31st, 2017, in US waters when their boat took on water and capsized.  The two fisherman drifted with the overturned boat for four hours, before washing ashore on a remote island on the Canadian side.

They were stranded for three days with no food or drinking water before being spotted by the RCMP patrol vessel. The pair had not been reported missing.

The citizens were transported back to the US side of the border to seek medical attention for dehydration and exposure.
