THUNDER BAY, ON – Sports — With the help of TSN announcers Glenn Schiiler and Darren Dutchyshen, the Staal Foundation Open Presented by Tbaytel has announced some of the celebrity players that will be a part of the 2017 tournament roster. From the TSN That’s Hockey 2Nite sports desk, the line up was revealed to include:
- Bobby Orr: His career includes eight straight Norris trophies, three consecutive Hart trophies, two Stanley Cups, and a Hall of Fame induction. Orr is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time.
- Grant Fuhr: Goaltending the Edmonton Oilers to five Stanley Cups, Fuhr was the backbone of the Oilers dynasty in the 80’s. He is a Vezina trophy winner, six-time NHL all-star, and Hall of Fame inductee.
- Trevor Letowski: Played over 600 games in the NHL in Phoenix, Vancouver, Columbus, and Carolina. He is the current associate coach of the Windsor Spitfire.
- Trevor Kidd: Played almost 400 games in net during his NHL career in Calgary, Florida, Carolina, and Toronto. He was the Calgary Flames’ first-round draft pick at 11th overall in the 1990 NHL draft.
- Ryan Johnson: Played for five NHL teams in his career. Most of his games were with Florida and St. Louis. He is currently the Director of Player Development for the Vancouver.
- Greg Johnson: Former centre playing for four teams in his 700 game NHL career. Recorded career high 50 points over 68 games in his 98-99 season with the Nashville Predators.
- Carter Hutton: Currently a goaltender for the St. Louis Blues, his record was 13-8-2 for the 16-17 NHL season. His previous 3 seasons were with the Nashville.
These past and present NHLers will join all four Staal brothers on Team Staal in the Fountain Tire Summer Classic, alongside a roster of celebrities, Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada players, TSN personalities and, of course, six lucky kids from across the region. They will also participate in the Fix Auto Celebrity Pro-am. Both games are being held at Whitewater Golf Club on Monday, July 10th, 2017, with funds raised supporting the Northern Cancer Fund and Camp Quality.
