Apartment Fire on West Frederica Street

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue report that at approximately 12:00 AM on 08 April 2017 crews were dispatched to a structural fire in a two storey apartment building on the 200 block of Frederica Street West.

Three pumpers and an Aerial Ladder responded.

The first arriving pumper crew encountered medium smoke that was increasing in the kitchen area of an apartment on the second floor. The occupants of the structure had evacuated having been alerted to the emergency by smoke detectors.

A second alarm was initiated which responded another two pumpers. The attack crew donned Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and utilized a 45mm hose line to extinguish the fire in the kitchen.

The fire was contained to the kitchen with smoke throughout the apartment. No damage was noted in the rest of the structure.

Occupants of the other apartments were able to return to their residences while the occupant of the residence that was damaged made other arrangements as it was uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

carbon monoxide detectors in their residences as they have proven time and again to save lives.
