Thunder Bay Man Faces Slew of Charges

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – On March 19, 2017 at approximately 6:00PM EDT the Ontario Provincial Police report that uniformed officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver on Highway 590.

The vehicle was described as a Dodge truck. Further investigation into the incident discovered that the Dodge truck had been reported stolen from a residence in the City of Thunder Bay.

Shortly after officers were dispatched, the vehicle in question was located by an officer on Highway 588.

The officer spoke to the driver of the truck and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay OPP detachment for further tests.

Brent SAND, 50 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with the following offences:

-Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,

-Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1 of the Criminal Code,

-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,

-Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code,

-Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample contrary to section 254(5) of the Criminal Code,

-Mischief Under $5000 contrary to section 430 (4) of the Criminal Code.

He was held for a video court appearance and has since been remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail.
