THUNDER BAY – City crews are scheduled to repair a watermain break near the intersection of Highway 61, between Cavar Road and 20th Side Road starting Monday, Dec. 26 at 10 pm.

To facilitate the repair, the water service will be turned off for residents in the Mount Forest Estate, and Green Gates area.  Those residents impacted will be notified.

The water service is planned to be restored before 8am on Tuesday, December 27th.

After the water service is restored, residents affected may notice discoloured water coming from their taps. Residents are advised to follow the steps below if they notice their water is discoloured.

  1. Do not open any HOT water taps.
    2. Open only one COLD water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
    3. Once the single COLD water tap is running clear, open all other taps including HOT water taps and flush until all water runs clear.

Running cold water taps for five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If discolouration returns, please repeat steps 1 to 3.

If the water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
