THUNDER BAY – LIVING – For most people, their pet is like a member of the family and making sure that they are well taken care of is a top priority. The best way to ensure your dog or cat has the best medical care is by getting the right pet insurance policy.

There are many options when it comes to your pet’s health insurance, so you should check some of the most popular ones before you make your decision. And if you’re ever confused by some of the more official terms used when talking about insurance, check out this common insurance terms guide.

There are a variety of different ailments that your pet can have, but none of them are scarier than a skin infection. For pets, having a skin infection can cause a lot of discomfort and pain, which can make them irritable and not the happiest animals to be around. A vital part of getting rid of these infections is finding the root cause of them. Here are a few of the common reasons for the administering of a skin infection treatment to your dog.

Allergic Reactions

One of the most common causes of a skin infection in your pet is an allergic reaction to different chemicals that are around them. The allergic reaction can be triggered by a variety of different things from shampoos to flea dip. In order to rid your pet of these infections and allergic reactions you will need to find the root cause of the problem. The longer you let this problem persist, the more damage that it will do to your health.

Constant Licking or Scratching

Another common cause of a skin infection is the constant licking and scratching that occurs once an allergic reaction starts. This constant rubbing against the affected area will start to create sores and irritation. You need to make sure that you try and keep your pet from doing this until you are able to get to the vet and get the treatment that you need to stop the infection. In most cases, the vet will put a cone on your pet until the healing in done to reduce the chance of them licking and scratching at it.

Physical Features

Yet another common cause of having skin infections are the physical attributes of some breeds of animals. Any animals with floppy ears or noticeable skin folds are at risk of getting skin infections far more than an animal without these attributes. There are many different creams and salves on the market that can aid in you reducing the amount of infections that your animal gets. Be sure to speak with your vet in order to get an idea on what you can do to reduce that amount of skin infections that your pet gets in a given amount of time.

With the right vet, you will be able to clear up your pet’s skin infection in no time at all.
