2015 has been a year of weather extremesTHUNDER BAY – Winter is hanging on hard across Ontario’s Far North.

Fort Severn and Peawanuck face wintery conditions today.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Fort Severn
  • Peawanuck

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Winter storm continues today.

Snow and occasional blowing snow in a stiff and cold northerly flow will continue today as a strong low pressure system moves slowly northward over James Bay.

The snow will taper off to scattered flurries by this evening.

Hazardous winter travelling conditions are expected to continue today.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Webequie
  • Big Trout Lake – KI First Nation
  • Kasabonika First Nation
  • Sachigo Lake
  • Bearskin Lake

A late season accumulating snow event on tap.

Northerly winds ushering in unseasonably cold air from the arctic will cause temperatures to drop to below zero this morning, with rain expected to change over to snow. A brief period of freezing rain and ice pellets is possible during the changeover.

Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres is expected by Saturday morning. The snow will taper off to scattered flurries later Saturday.
