Forest Fire ReportTHUNDER BAY – Forest fire season in Northwestern Ontario has started.

There were two new fires confirmed later in the day on April 26th.  Kenora District Fire Number 4 is under control at 3.7 hectares. Kenora District Fire Number 5 is under control at 0.1 hectares and is located near Wabaseemoong First Nation. Kenora District Fire Number 3 has been declared out.

There was one new fire confirmed by the afternoon of April 27. Dryden District Fire Number 2 is being held at 0.3 hectares and is located near Dinorwic Lake. The fire hazard is moderate to high across the region.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
