THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Snow has started in Thunder Bay. Environment Canada says that there will be “significant snowfall amounts today and tonight” The city of Thunder Bay remains under a Special Weather Statement.

The weather service says that “An intensifying low pressure system over Wisconsin this morning will track slowly northward today. Snow associated with the low has spread across parts of Northwestern Ontario and may fall heavy at times this afternoon. The snow will be mixed with ice pellets at times today around Thunder Bay. The snow will taper off overnight into Thursday morning”.

Total snowfall amounts with the system are expected to be in the 8 to 15 cm range. Areas near and south of Thunder Bay are expected to receive the higher amounts.

Dryden along with other parts of Northwestern Ontario are under a Snowfall Warning.

The impact of the weather is having an effect on flights from the Thunder Bay International Airport. There are delays and cancellations.

Additionally, flights coming from Asia headed to Toronto and New York, as well as flights from Europe headed to Los Angeles, Dallas and other destinations in the United States fly over our region.
