OPP Update One Dead and Four Injured in Accident on Highway 17 Near Ignace

IGNACE – NEWS – The Ontario Provincial Police are reporting that one person has died and four are injured as a result of a head on motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 that happened this morning at about 9:00AM EDT.

The accident happened on Highway 17 approximately forty km East of Ignace.

The OPP advise that the identity of the deceased will not be released until th notification of next of kin has been completed.

OPP Detachment offices from Ignace are being assisted by OPP officers from the Thunder Bay and Upsala Detachments. Additionally in a media statement the OPP advise that a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) and the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) out of Thunder Bay have been deployed to help in the investigation.

Highway 17 has been closed most of the day and will continue to be closed until Police have completed their investigation.
