THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – There is rain, at times very heavy so far today in Thunder Bay. Environment Canada has however downgraded the Rainfall Warning to a Special Weather Statement. The weather service predicts less than 50mm of rain.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay

Significant rainfall today for Northwestern Ontario and north of superior.

A developing low over Minnesota is forecast to track over Western Lake Superior by this evening. Rain in advance of this system has spread into much of Northwestern Ontario and north of superior during the night.

Current indications suggest that rainfall amounts from this system are likely to be in the 20 to 40 mm range by this evening. Some embedded thunderstorms may accompany the rain.

The rainfall warning that was in effect for Superior West, Atikokan, Upsala and Gull Bay has been ended. Latest analysis suggests that rainfall amounts there will no longer surpass the warning criterion of 50 mm.
