NANOS Poll Canadian PoliticsTHUNDER BAY – POLITICS – Prime Minister Harper is expected to make the trip to Rideau Hall this morning and seek an election writ from the Governor General. That expected move will bring in an early election, the Prime Minister is expected to call for an eleven week campaign.

The Prime Minister’s schedule shows a meeting with Governor General David Johnston at 10:00AM EDT and Prime Minister Harper will deliver remarks at 10:15AM EDT.

The longer campaign period will allow parties to spend double the usual money that they could in a 37-day-campaign.

The latest polling show that the New Democrats are polling slightly ahead of the Conservatives, followed closely by the Liberals.

The campaign is likely to be a long and fairly bitter national campaign.

Locally, the campaign offices are open, the candidates for the major parties are set, and the campaigning has been ongoing for months.
