THUNDER BAY – ROAD CONSTRUCTION – The start of the resurfacing of the Harbour Expressway between Highway 11/17 and Golf Links Road has been delayed due to a forecast of rain and will now begin on Wednesday, May 27. The work was initially scheduled to begin on May 25. No road closures will take place until Wednesday, after the forecasted storm has passed through the City.

Work on the Harbour Expressway will proceed in three stages. During stage one, which begins Monday, traffic movements will be permitted in an easterly direction only (i.e., travelling from Highway 11/17 to Golf Links Road), with all westbound lanes closed. This stage is expected to take two weeks to complete.

During stage two, all westbound lanes and one eastbound lane will be open to traffic. This stage is expected to take one week to complete.

In the final stage, all westbound lanes will be open, and all eastbound lanes will be closed. Work in this stage is expected to last one week.

Reduced speed limits will also be in place to increase safety for work crews. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible; a detour route will be posted.

If travelling in the area is necessary, drivers are asked to use caution and obey all posted signage.
