THUNDER BAY – WILD FIRE Update – Northeast Ontario Wild Fire Report, since May 4, 13 new fires have been confirmed in the region. Of these, four fires are still burning yet under control. Two are in the Wawa region, one is in the Kirkland Lake region and one is in the Perry Sound region. The Northeast Fire Region has confirmed and suppressed 24 fires totaling 73 hectares.

The forest fire hazard currently ranges from low to moderate. Algonquin Park, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins are experiencing a moderate hazard, with the rest of the Northeast Region remaining steady with a low hazard.

People are reminded that under the Ontario Forest Fires Prevention Act they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines for burning brush and grass. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
