2015 has been a year of weather extremesTHUNDER BAY – WEATHER – UPDATED – Weather in the Far North of Ontario will be extremely variable on Sunday.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Peawanuck
  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake
  • Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake
  • Fort Hope – Lansdowne House – Ogoki
  • Webequie

Dramatic temperature change Sunday

Unseasonably warm air is expected to move into Far Northern Ontario Sunday. Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 8 degrees along with some light rain. For the Peawanuck area, some brief freezing rain is possible in the afternoon before the temperatures warm above freezing.

However, a very powerful cold front will cross the north Sunday evening with northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h. The temperature is expected to drop sharply with the frontal passage. Rain will change to snow with a few centimetres possible. Reduced visibility in blowing snow is expected. Many areas will see temperatures drop by 10 to 15 degrees in the span of just a few hours.
