WINNIPEG, Man. –  It took a late goal and an empty netter for the Program of Excellence Red to pull out a 3-1 triumph over the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens Friday evening at the Female World Sport School Challenge in Winnipeg.

The POE side from Kelowna, B.C., picked up the lone tally of the opening period as they connected on the power play midway through the first.

Up a skater, the Queens drew level in the middle stanza as Laura Dechamps finished off the work of Avery Baker and Sarah Dodic, who drew assists on the equalizer.

With less eight minutes remaining, Program of Excellence added the eventual game-winner then iced it by scoring into an empty net in the waning moments to round out the scoring.

Fayth Chamber was tremendous in the Thunder Bay net despite the defeat finishing the night with 33 saves overall.

The Queens will wrap-up play in the eight-team tourney with an 11:30 a.m. match-up vs. the Banff Hockey Academy.
