Back to the BoogiesTHUNDER BAY – ENTERTAINMENT – Dancers busted a move at City Hall today, as  Children’s Centre Thunder Bay  announced details for an upcoming fundraiser that will raise much needed dollars for children in the community.

Whether you are a novice or can tear it up on the dance floor, all are welcome to come dance the night away at the inaugural Back to the Boogies Event in support of the Children’s Centre Foundation. The fundraiser is being held on February 21st at the Italian Cultural Centre from 8 PM- 1 AM.

Children’s Centre Thunder Bay provides vital mental health and developmental services to children and families in the community. Executive Director Diane Walker explains that funding is crucial to ensure children are happy and healthy. “Many children who come to the Centre are experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties that have a negative impact on their life at school and at home. Our staff works with individual children, parents, families and other professionals to address problems and needs, and in some cases prevent issues from evolving. Back to the Boogies will be a night of fun and dance to celebrate children in our community while raising awareness about what the organization does in Thunder Bay.”

As childcare is often an expressed as a barrier to accessing services for families and children, funding raised from the event will primarily support Children’s Centre Thunder Bay’s child- minding services. “Childcare is necessary while parents and caregivers are occupied in sessions with staff at the Centre, and in situations where parents do not have access to babysitters and siblings of clients need to attend;” continues Walker.

The child-minding program is a new service and will be provided during walk-in counselling with an opportunity for future expansion. In  2014, Children’s Centre Thunder Bay’s weekly walk-in counselling clinic, which is a free service available to the public, saw 466 clients. In total, Children’s Centre Thunder Bay provided service for over 2,500 children and families in 2014.

Back to the Boogies tickets are $40, which includes a late night snack, and can be purchased by contacting the Children’s Centre Foundation at 343-5000.
