WAWA – WEATHER – Over the past month, there have been too many accidents along the North Shore of Lake Superior according to the Superior East Wawa OPP.

Winter driving conditions have been upon us and the Superior East Wawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) urge drivers to avoid the risky behaviour of aggressive driving – slow down, give yourself more time to arrive at your destination and maintain distance between vehicles.

Excess speed reduces the amount of available time needed to avoid a collision, increases the likelihood of a collision and increases the severity of a collision once it occurs.

Between January 1, 2015 and January 31, 2015, 49 motor vehicle collisions were investigated, 39 of which were weather related. If travels are necessary during potentially dangerous winter weather conditions, drive carefully.

Both Highway 11 and Highway 17 were closed several times as OPP investigated accidents, and removed damaged vehicles.

With more snow in the forecast for later this week and into the weekend, taking the time to make sure you arrive alive is sounding like a great idea.
