Thunder Bay Queens Edged 3-1 in Tournament Opener

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Manshield Construction bantam A Queens dropped a hard fought 3-1 to the Chaska Chanhassen Storm Hawks in opening day play Friday evening at the Prelude to the Playoffs tournament in Eden Prairie, Minn.

The Storm Hawks to a 1-0 lead into the second period where they extended their cushion to two early in the middle stanza.

Thunder Bay would get on the board with five minutes remaining in regulation as Jillian D’Angelo scored with assists going to Hannah Leung and Caitlyn Olinski.

The Queens pressed for the equalizer in the late going and pulled goaltender Paige Wilson in favour of an extra attacker only to see Chaska Chanhassen put one into the empty net to wrap things up offensively.

Game action in the 12-team tourney for Thunder Bay resumes Saturday as they take on the Edina Hornets at 2:30 p.m.

That will be followed up with a 9:15 p.m. encounter against the Rochester Vipers.

The bantam A Queens final game Sunday will be based on their finish in round robin play.
