Lakehead ThunderwolvesTORONTO – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves men’s basketball were able to pull out a 73-70 victory on Friday evening over the Toronto Varsity Blues.

It’s didn’t look promising for the ‘Wolves for the majority of the game, as they trailed 19-13 after the first quarter and 37-28 at the break.
As the second half wore on, Lakehead would draw closer within striking distance, and turn it on in the fourth Q, scoring 27 points, 10 more than their Torontonian counterparts.
In the final 5 minutes, Lakehead would get it done as a team, with Mor Menashe and Dwayne Harvey making clutch baskets in the lane, while Alex Robichaud splashed in a triple with under 2 minutes to play. Add to that Bacarius Dinkins and Henry Tan, who combined to go 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 2 minutes of play and seal the victory.
Menashe finished with a team-high 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Harvey added 14 points with 5 boards, and Henry Tan scored 12 points with 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Bacarius Dinkins and Anthony McIntosh grabbed 7 rebounds each.
For Toronto, Devin Johnson scored a game-high 23 points with 9 rebounds.
Coach Manny Furtado commented, “Our guys never quit tonight and battled for the W. In the fourth quarter we got some defensive stops when we needed to, and made some key free throws. I’m happy for our guys to gut out the win.”
The men’s team takes on the CIS #3 Ryerson Rams tomorrow evening at 8pm.
