Thunder Bay Police Report on Impaired Driving Incidents

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police report that Tuesday night was busy with drivers who got behind the wheel after too many alcoholic beverages. Shortly after midnight, officers responded to report of a pick-up truck that had crashed on the road entering Lakehead University just west of Balmoral St. .

Upon arrival, officers saw the black Ford Ranger truck had struck a light pole and then spun back into the roadway.

A 22 year old male driver was taken into custody for impaired driving. The truck has been impounded for seven days and the driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.

Next, Police report, a 20 year old male Thunder Bay resident has found himself in custody for impaired driving following a high speed crash on Red River Road at Waverly St at about 3:00AM EST this morning.

Officers responded to the scene and found a black GMC pick-up had extensive front end damage after hitting the guardrail on Red River Rd.

The male driver was essentially unhurt, and only one of the three passengers in the vehicle reported a minor injury.

The truck is impounded for seven days and the driver’s license is suspended for 90 days.

Both drivers are charged and released from custody.

Police share that “Last night’s activity comes just prior to the launch of the annual festive season RIDE programs”.
