THUNDER BAY – United Way Campaign Chair, Michael Nitz has had the privilege of visiting each of the United Way’s 29 Funded Agencies. It is has amazed him to hear the many stories of local people who have had their lives changed because of the programs and services provided by these agencies. From couples nearing bankruptcy to families who struggle just to keep their kids fed between pay-cheques to children from broken homes who are at risk of heading down a dangerous path. With help from United Way these people have been able to achieve financial security, eat nutritious meals, and become healthier, stronger kids. ”These examples are endless and real. And thanks to your contributions through United Way, their lives have changed for the better.” Nitz says

Over half of all United Way donations come through employee campaigns at almost 300 workplaces. Everyday people stepping up and doing their part to make our community a better place for everyone. The local charity gathered today at one of these workplaces, Home Hardware on Memorial Avenue where Store Manager, Chris Sauer, spoke about why they support United Way through their Employee Campaign & Corporate giving. He also encouraged other businesses to increase their giving to United Way this year or to make a donation for the first time if they are not already participating.

“The number of people who need services always exceeds the amount of money funded agencies have, and the need grows every year. We must reach our campaign target so that our agencies can help more people.” Nitz stated. The mid-campaign update reported that as of November 6th the United Way has raised just under $1 Million. With only 7 weeks left in the campaign to reach the $2,602,824 target, Nitz and his Campaign Team volunteers are asking individuals to reach a little deeper as every dollar helps, noting that your donation will be directed where it is needed most and will be used effectively to help people in our community. “You have the power to make a difference in the lives of your friends, family and neighbours – Your gift matters!”

If you have already made your gift, United Way thanks you and encourages you to let others know why you think it’s important to give.
