Thunder Rolls in Alberta, LU Cagers Win Again

Edmonton, AB – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves men’s basketball team won their second game in as many nights, this time playing the role of aggressor in the fourth quarter, and beating the U of Alberta Golden Bears 68-54.

Halftime score was 34-32 for Alberta. As the second half unfolded, Lakehead responded time and again to Alberta’s advances, and eventually broke through in the fourth quarter. The ‘Wolves out-scored Alberta 21-9 in the final 10 minutes to seal the victory.

Lakehead got double-digit scoring from four players, including Dwayne Harvey’s team leading 13 points. Alex Robichaud added 12 in the win, including two 3-balls in the final minutes of play, while Ashaunti Hogan and Mor Menashe added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Alberta’s Mamadou Gueye led all scorers with 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Turnovers were almost even, Lakehead committing 15 and Alberta 16.

Coach Manny Furtado commented post game, “We had a great fourth quarter defensively today. I’m proud of the way our guys competed. We had to make some adjustments when we were down and the guys responded. Next we get ready for NAIT tomorrow, and move forward with our lessons from today.”

Lakehead completes its Edmonton trip tomorrow afternoon against the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks, tipping off at 3pm (ET).
