Maadaadiza Orientation at Marina Park Saturday

Lakehead UniversityTHUNDER BAY – EDUCATION – The Maadaadizi Orientation is all about celebrating and inspiring Aboriginal youth coming to Lakehead University, Confederation College and Oshki-Pimache-O-Win this fall.  Held on Saturday, Sepember 6th at Marina Park from 12:00 noon to 5 pm, “Maadaadizi” – meaning “she/he starts a journey” in Ojibwe – is a way of welcoming Aboriginal students and their families to post-secondary education and to the City of Thunder Bay.

Canadian musician, broadcaster and educator Wab Kinew is the keynote speaker.

Ron Kanutski will perform stand-up comedy and guests will also enjoy music by Nick Sherman and Sara Kanutski.

Information booths will be hosted by various organizations. Children’s activities, including a bouncy castle, will be available, and prizes and refreshments will be offered.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free orientation. The organizers hope to see you there, rain or shine!

The Maadaadizi Orientation is being organized by Lakehead University’s Office of Aboriginal Initiatives and Aboriginal Cultural and Support Services, Confederation College’s Negahneewin Aboriginal Student Services Department, Eabametoong First Nation, Fort William First Nation, Matawa Post Secondary Program, Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, Oshki-Pimache-O-Win, and Seven Generations Education Institute.
