AFN Shawn Atleo Resigns

OTTAWA – Assembly of First Nations Chief Shawn Atleo has resigned. The move comes as debate over the Education Act has been heating up.

The National Chief has been under a great deal of pressure from the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, and other Chiefs over his support for the proposed legislation that has been tabled in the House of Commons in April.

At a media conference in Ottawa, the now former National Chief stated that he didn’t want to be “A lightning rod or obstacle” to First Nations education.
