WINNIPEG – DRYDEN – SPORTS – Lauren Lightbody’s first goal of the season with 6:29 remaining in the second period proved to be game-winner as the Thunder Bay Manshield Construction bantam A Queens blanked the Dryden Timberwolves 2-0 at the Stars Cup tournament in Winnipeg.

After a scoreless opening frame Lightbody’s right point shot from her defensive position beat the Dryden netminder to give Thunder Bay the lead.

Tia Lampo added some insurance in the third for the Queens supplying the final marker of the contest with 11 and a half minutes remaining.

Taylor Gombola posted the shutout for Thunder Bay as they improved to 2-0 at the tourney.

A victory or tie in the club’s final round robin game Saturday at 9:30 p.m. vs. the Morden Hawks, who are also 2-0, will send the Queens to Sunday’s final at 3:45 p.m.
