Strong Fiscal Background for New Tbaytel CFO

THUNDER BAY – Business – Tbaytel is pleased to name Mr. Michael Coffey, CPA, CA, as its newest chief financial officer (CFO), effective Jan. 27, 2014. In his new position, Mr. Coffey is responsible for leading the company’s financial and accounting divisions and now fills the role previously held by president and CEO Dan Topatigh.

“Michael’s demonstrated ability to lead a number of companies through periods of organizational expansion and financial growth has already proven to be an asset in the initial weeks since he joined Tbaytel’s executive team,” says Topatigh. “He has extensive experience at the senior management level across a variety of industries and I look forward to working with Michael to continue delivering on Tbaytel’s commitment to provide our customers with the very best in telecommunication solutions.”

Prior to joining Tbaytel, Mr. Coffey held the position of controller for GRK Fasteners, the Thunder Bay-based division of ITW Canada. During his tenure with GRK, he helped to implement sound financial policies and procedures to help grow the company under the ITW umbrella.

He was also controller and VP of administration at DST Group Inc., and director of finance for The Chronicle Journal. Prior to entering the publishing and engineering sectors, Mr. Coffey worked in the automotive industry and held the position of controller with Dieco Technologies Inc. in Brampton, Ont.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Mr. Coffey has a firm understanding of the unique landscape of northern Ontario, both professionally and personally. He graduated from Lakehead University with an honours bachelor degree in commerce and a bachelor’s degree in administration – marketing. He remains a member in good standing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario as well as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Coffey currently resides in Thunder Bay with his wife Michelle and their two children.
