THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay City Council Chambers might be getting a little more like a political boxing ring. When he filed nomination papers on Monday, incumbent Mayor Hobbs stated that “He is the hardest working Mayor in Thunder Bay’s history”.

Ken Boshcoff issued a statement this morning, “As people have started calling me this morning after an interview with John Ongaro of the Giant Radio Station I will make the following the statement:

“For Keith Hobbs to state that he is the hardest-working Mayor in the history of Thunder Bay is insulting and offensive to those who have served in that role before and to their families and friends.”
“To be so arrogant as to demean the efforts of previous leaders is a very sad situation indeed for Mr Hobbs,” added Boshcoff.
“Hopefully he will demonstrate some remorse for his ill-chosen words”

Councillor Ken Boshcoff says “Its very sad to hear that and it is offensive to hear that”.

Boshcoff says “I haven’t met a Mayor who doesn’t give 110%”.

The former mayor said he is shocked by the comment.

“It doesn’t bother me, but I am sure Jack Masters and Lynn Peterson might care”. Boshcoff says “When you run for re-election you run on your record not on your ego. It is up to the public to tell you how you are”.

“As a former Mayor, I am offended by the comments”, said Boshcoff, “Mayor Masters and Mayor Peterson have too much class to comment”.

Councillor Boshcoff was a city councillor from to 1978 to 1997 before being re-elected in 2010. Boshcoff was Thunder Bay Mayor from 1997 to 2003. He then served as MP in Ottawa for Thunder Bay Rainy River. Boshcoff was re-elected to City Council as an At-Large Councillor three years ago and topped the polls in that category.
