United Way GenNext Succeeds with Annual Ischkinakker Shaker

THUNDER BAY – Party Scene – December 23rd, 2013 marked the 11th annual Ischkinakker Shaker held at the C.L.E Coliseum and attended by approximately 600 people. Originally founded by Johnny Debakker and Katie Ischkin, this was the 1st year that the event was hosted by the United Way’s GenNext Cabinet. Debakker said, “What started as a way for two people to get all of their friends together in one place over the Christmas holidays has turned into one of the biggest parties of the year”. The two were happy to hand the event over to the United Way and GenNext. They felt that this group of young people were a great fit because of their youth and keen desire to help improve the lives of people living in Thunder Bay and North Western Ontario.

GenNext is Thunder Bay’s premier organization for young adults committed to strengthening their community while networking and having fun. As a vibrant, diverse and talented group of young individuals, they live, work and volunteer in Thunder Bay and area.

The 2013 Ischkinakker Shaker raised $9,614 for the United Way’s Community Fund. This money will stay in our community to support thousands of local people through 64 vital human service programs. Special thanks goes to GenNext Cabinet Co-Chairs Sarah Focht and Dane Hatton, event committee members Kenny Calonego, Paige Ferrazzo, Kelly Grant, Adrian McKee and Kayla Stephenson for all of their hard work on this great event. Additional thanks goes to Keith Anderson, Kristin Costa, Mark Grant, Michael Nitz and Mike Suslyk for their support.

United Way and GenNext wish to thank the many sponsors, volunteers, and attendees of this awesome event. Your support is making change start here! To learn more about United Way’s GenNext Cabinet go to the United Way website or find them on Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/unitedwaygennext.
