THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team (2-6) host the Western Mustangs (1-7) for a pair of games this weekend in the Thunderdome, Friday and Saturday evening at 7:00pm.

Capturing these games for the ‘Wolves will prove critical in climbing up the ranks of the OUA. Since winning their first two games of the season, they have been on a 6 game slide and are in need of a reversal before the winter exam break.
Coach Chris Green explains,”Western come in to town on a high after recording their first win of the season last Sunday, a 3-2 decision vs Brock. Western is a team with a solid mix of young and seasoned players under the direction of new Head Coach Melissa Bartlett. Stephanie Kreuter (5th Year left side) leads this group as their physical attacker.”
Green continues, “This game is about us finding our rhythm. We have got to get back to running a more efficient offence and practice a discipline defensive style. Western brings in a total of 3 lefty’s to the floor and that usually causes teams a lot of trouble in a right-handed dominated game.  I want our game to start to reflect the way we train, in an efficient, passionate style that leaves nothing on the floor. So as much as Western poses a lot of issues for us we have to concentrate on our game. From there we will then start to pay heavy attention to the way Western plays and their tendencies we are able to match up with. Their strengths mean a lot but have no impact on us if we do not clean up our game. That has been the focus all week and we will continue to work on that as the days progress.”
