THUNDER BAY – “It is a good idea,” stated Iain Angus. Speaking on behalf of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) the Thunder Bay City Councillor expressed support for the announcement made this morning by the Ontario Government.

Minister Michael Gravelle says the Ontario Government wants to “Hit the road running” and that there have been letters sent to industry, First Nations, and the federal government on Thursday.

One of the goals of the effort is getting past what many have seen as a bottleneck in the Ring of Fire, the infrastructure which would get materials in, and out of the mining development.

Gravelle states, “Infrastructure is vital to developing the Ring of Fire. People need to get in to work and products need to get out to the global market. We need to determine what infrastructure will be most appropriate. That means that the current proposals on the table must come together while, at the same time, we must see the federal government join us in moving development forward. Through the creation of a development corporation, I am confident we will find a solution that is in the best interest for the people of Ontario.”
