“We recognize that being ranked as ‘leaders’ or ‘good’ isn’t good enough for our patients, nor for us. We want to be known for Exceptional Cancer Care. This plan is a direct response to the needs identified by our patients, staff, and healthcare providers across Northwestern Ontario who are working together to deliver cancer care. Together, we WILL deliver Exceptional Cancer Care by 2015.” Dr. Dimitrios Vergidis, Chief of Oncology

Moving from “Good” to “Exceptional Cancer Care”

Regional Cancer Care’s Cancer Plan 2011-2015 is a roadmap illustrating exactly how it will reach its goal of Exceptional Cancer Care by 2015. In the four years of the plan, patients and families will gain better access to prevention and screening services, faster diagnostic services, better access to credible cancer information, more advanced treatment options, and easier access to supportive care.

These and other specific goals fall under three general areas:

Patient Experience – Regional Cancer Care will rate highest in the province in patient satisfaction for meeting the informational and emotional needs of its patients. This will be accomplished through a more responsive outpatient environment, advancements in personalized medicine, and more accessible Supportive Care.

Quality – Regional Cancer Care will continually develop its services to provide the absolute highest quality cancer care available in the province. Areas of concentration include diagnostic imaging, expanded Multidisciplinary Case Conferences, a formalized Surgical Oncology Network, and the Regional Systemic Therapy Program.

Innovation – Regional Cancer Care will expand its services through innovative programs, equipment, and approaches to cancer care and prevention. This includes advanced radiation treatment techniques, the Integrated Cancer Screening program, accelerating research, enhanced academics, and E-Health strategies.
