Sarah Reid led the Thunderwolves vs. the UW-Superior Stingers, registering 8 kills, followed by Christie Lowe with 4 kills and 3 stuff blocks. Libero Breanne Hilhorst had 12 digs while Sara Hudson made 24 assists.
About the first game coach Chris Green remarked, “It was good to get our girls on the floor to finally play and watch how some of our new players handled their first games. We started slow and adapted well after the first set. Our unforced errors killed us and I guess that is typical of the first action of the year and the youth on our roster. We need to clean that up fast and I am confident they will.”
Against Finlandia U coach Green used an all-rookie line-up to get his rookies some more experience, and they did not disappoint.
Following a tough first set loss with 9 errors, the Thunderwolf rookie team bounced back to take three straight, the last set a comeback win with strong serving from Carmen Hutsal, who had 8 service aces in the match.
Leftside Kailan Robinson led the Pack with 14 points, libero Erin Burgess had 16 digs and Rachel Moore put up 3 stuff blocks.
Said Coach Green, “This was a great game for our young girls to play together. I was very pleased with their unity and flow on the court. They worked well together and the feedback from the veterans was a great support for them. We have some good things to build off and we will get back at it tomorrow.”
Next the team will play a scrimmage against UW-Superior and a local college in the morning, followed by games against College St Scholastica and Drake College to round out the weekend.
