THUNDER BAY – The Empire Hotel is coming down. Today Simpson Street is closed off to allow demolition crews to bring down the hotel.
Traffic is being diverted off Simpson Street. The equipment is on site now to knock down the building.
The property is owned by an out-of-town company. The company has not responded to requests for information, from NNL City officials have confirmed that the costs of the demolition will be passed on to the company based out of Ottawa.
The hotel had a section collapse on Thursday. The City of Thunder Bay moved quickly to act and protect public safety.
