thunder bay police macs robberyTHUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police investigated a robbery that had occurred at the Mac’s Convenience Store located at 340 May Street on March 28th, 2013 at 4:15 p.m.

The suspect entered the store and told the store clerk that he had a gun and a knife. He left the store with cash and cigarettes. No one was injured in the incident. Officers checked the areas but were unable to locate the male. The images provided to police allowed for the male to be identified by officers.

Just after midnight on the same date, an off duty officer observed the suspect on Victoria Avenue and called to notify the police. The male was located on Leith Street and was placed under arrest without incident. He was escorted to the Balmoral Police station.

28 year old Blake Nicholas Kowalchuk was charged with Robbery and Breach of Recognizance. He appeared in court on the weekend and was remanded for a court appearance today.
