J.R. Ewing is dead – Actor Larry Hagman passes away at 81

THUNDER BAY – Larry Hagman played many roles. His most famous role was as J.R. Ewing the man who everyone loved to hate. Hagman passed away on Friday. His family has released this statement: “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for.”

One of Larry Hagman’s earlier roles was on ‘I Dream of Jeanie’ where the actor played an astronaut who found a genie. The comedy featured Barbara Eden and at the time, because in the costume that Eden wore exposed her belly-button it was ground-breaking television. Things have sure changed over the years.

On the nighttime ‘soap opera’ Dallas, which featured the drama of J.R Ewing opposite Patrick Duffy starring as Bobby Ewing, it was a classic battle of good vs evil, and there was rarely at time that J.R. Ewing chose good.

Hagman was diagnosed with throat cancer, “But I got caught by cancer. I do want everyone to know that it is a very common and treatable form of cancer. I will be receiving treatment while working on the new Dallas series. I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love,” reported Hagman at the time.

That cancer is what took his life in the end.

The family has requested privacy at this time.
