IgnatieffTORONTO – Democracy teaches hard lessons. And we have to be big enough, open-hearted enough, and courageous enough to learn from the one the Canadian people taught our Party on May 2.

I am immensely proud of the campaign we ran, together.

From one end of the country to the other, our candidates, and their passionate and dedicated supporters, carried the Liberal banner door-to-door, rain or shine, and fought proudly.

And while our result is not what we had hoped for, it is also a new day, with great possibilities, and a time to move forward.

I am immeasurably grateful for the support you have all shown me and the Liberal Party during my time as leader.

As Liberals, we represent a proud tradition, one that has shaped Canada’s history, and helped Canadians build better lives.

Where we go from here will be up to you, our supporters, the grass roots, the heart and soul of this Party.

But as you move forward, dear friends, hear this – Be proud, Liberals. We have fought well. And we will fight again.

Thank you.

Michael Ignatieff
