MP Bruce Hyer criticizes Liberal candidate Yves Fricot for working for Ken Buchanan while claiming that he works for the people of Northwestern Ontario. I can tell you that during the 19 months that our main industry was down, Hyer did nothing to assist in the re-start of the mill.
I approached Hyer during an event in Fort Frances two years ago to ask him about coming to our town to discuss our situation and to see how he could get involved, as our MP, to help get our mill going.
His response was two-fold. First, if we wanted him to come to our town, we should send him an invitation; second, if we wanted assistance with the re-start of our mill, he was probably the wrong person to talk to.
Hyer did try to get invited to the grand re-opening of our mill but no one would give him the satisfaction of being in the group picture after all the work was done.
I am supporting Fricot in this election because I have witnessed first-hand his hard work, tenacity and “never-give-up” attitude towards the survival of a very valuable operation which means so much to Northwestern Ontario.
I believe that Fricot worked hard for Buchanan because that’s what he does; he is a hard, dedicated worker. With any job, at times you have to make tough decisions where people get hurt, but that doesn’t make you a poor performer; it’s just part of the job.
All his life Fricot worked hard representing the groups he worked for and I have no doubt that, when elected, he will work just as hard when representing all of us.
